Associate Prof. Dr Ramadan Mohamed Elkalmi

Dr Ramadan M. Elkalmi is currently working as an assistant professor of clinical pharmacy/Pharmacology at Sabha University– Libya. He received his PhD in pharmacy practice and health system research at University Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, Malaysia.

He received his MPharm (Master) degree at University Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, Malaysia in the year 2003 and completed his BSc in pharmaceutical sciences at Tripoli University, Libya (1993/1994). He served as a lecturer and head of the pharmacology department in the faculty of medicine at the University of Sabha, Libya from 2005 to 2011.

Dr Ramadan started his academic career at the University of Sebha, Libya in 2003 after completing his MSc degree in clinical pharmacy as well as being a visiting lecturer at many other Libyan universities. In 2011, he was transferred to the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), as one of the pioneer lecturers of the pharmacy programme in this university where he served for 7 years. In 2019, Dr Ramadan joined the College of Pharmacy at the University of Science and Technology of Fujairah and Dubai College of Pharmacy, UAE for two years,

His major research interests are Pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology and social & behavioural aspects of pharmacy and health, quantitative and qualitative aspects of medication usage especially adherence and prescribing and non-prescription medication, evaluation and analysis of pharmaceutical policies and pharmacy education.

Dr Ramadan was also honoured with an award of “Sanggar Sanjung 2010” award from USM for excellence achievement (publication category).  He has published about 50 articles as an author and co-coauthor in many peer-reviewed international journals. In addition,

Dr Ramadan serves as an editorial board member and as a reviewer for many reputable international journals. Besides his involvement in teaching undergraduate pharmacy students in different fields of clinical pharmacy and pharmacy practice, he was also involved in supervising postgraduate pharmacy students.
