The Noor Center for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, in cooperation with the Oriental Studies Unit at the University of Mosul and the French Iraqi Cultural Institute, organized a scientific symposium entitled:
Arabic literature in Orientalist studies on Tuesday, November 25, 2025
presided over the session Dr. nabil nooraldeen husseinthe Director of the Alnoor Center for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage at Alnoor University, and participating in it were each of Dr. Mohammed Zuhair Zaidanthe Director of Cultural Relations at Alnoor University, the Director of the French–Iraqi Cultural Institute, Dr. Fares Aziz Almudarris, and Professor Mahmoud Browari from the Oriental Studies Unit at the University of Mosul
The symposium included an analytical reading of the literary, philosophical, and intellectual approaches adopted by Orientalist studies in addressing Arabic literature, from their methodological formation in the seventeenth century up to the present day
At the conclusion of the symposium, the participants stressed that the Arab library still suffers from a clear shortage of modern works that track the transformations in Orientalist studies in recent decades. They affirmed the importance of refocusing attention on the new contributions for the perspectives and methodologies they offer, which differ from the traditional approaches that prevailed in past centuries
The symposium witnessed distinguished attendance by researchers and specialists in the fields of history and archaeology, in addition to a number of those interested in cultural affairs in the city of Mosul.
