The workshop addressed the concept of cultural adaptation as one of the fundamental pillars in the translation process, especially when dealing with texts that encompass social and cultural dimensions specific to different communities. The lecturer emphasized the importance of understanding the cultural context of the source text and conveying it in a way that aligns with the target language’s culture, preserving meaning and significance while avoiding misunderstandings or unintended offense.
The workshop also presented practical examples illustrating the differences between literal translation and culturally adaptive translation, highlighting the translator's role in building a cultural communication bridge between peoples, as well as discussing the main challenges faced by translation students in this field and ways to develop their linguistic and cultural skills.
The workshop witnessed active participation from the attending students through interventions and questions that enriched the session, reflecting the department’s commitment to enhancing practical aspects alongside the theoretical foundations in the study of translation.
