When nostalgia meets the skin of memories in the embrace of the place... displaced people return to their places of life.
Under the patronage of Alnoor University and the Alnoor Center for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, and organized by the Lamassu Organization for Culture with the hosting of Baytna Foundation for Culture, Arts, and Heritage (the cultural front of Alnoor University), a delegation of Christians from Mosul — who were forced to leave their city during the displacement following the events of 2014 and are now residing outside it — was hosted in a humanitarian and cultural initiative aimed at strengthening the spirit of national identity and restoring the connection with place.
The initiative included accompanying the delegation on visits to their old homes, shops, the alleys of the city, and their churches and schools that had shaped the memories of their childhood and youth, allowing them to relive touching moments of nostalgia and loyalty to the place.
This visit came in conjunction with the eve of the Feast of the Cross, celebrated by Christians in Iraq and around the world, and it was an opportunity to revive feelings of belonging and to share joy with fellow citizens.
The tour also included visits to the churches of Mar Toma, Meskenta, Al-Saa‘a, and the churches of Hosh Al-Bi‘a, in addition to the old alleys, houses, and markets, where the attendees recalled their memories with great emotion.
This visit and intimate celebration was attended by Professor Dr. Muzahim Qasim Al-Khayyat, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Higher Education, who affirmed his support for these initiatives that uphold the values of coexistence and national unity.
