The Department of Petroleum Engineering at Alnoor University conducts an experiment to examine the distillation of petroleum products
In the presence of Prof. Dr. Yaseen Taha Alhajjar, Under the patronage of the President of Alnoor University, a petroleum products distillation test was conducted by Dr. Mahmoud Abdul Karim Abdul Qader, under supervision الاستاذ المساعد الدكتور طه حسين السالم رئيس قسم هندسة النفط/College of Engineering At Alnoor University laboratories, for third- and fourth-year students, the internationally standardized ASTM D86 test method for atmospheric distillation of petroleum products was conducted. This method determines the boiling range in order to evaluate the volatility of fuels such as gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel, as well as solvents and other products. The test is performed using a standardized laboratory procedure in which a 100 mL sample is heated and distilled in stages at atmospheric pressure in a flask, with controlled heating and measurement of the vapor temperatures during condensation to plot the distillation curve. This curve shows the initial boiling point and the final boiling point, which are critically important for engine performance, including cold starting, prevention of vapor lock, and overall product quality. Therefore, the ASTM D86 method is of great importance for both performance and safety.
