Alnoor University discusses prospects for joint academic and cultural cooperation with the British Museum in London

In line with its ongoing efforts to build bridges of scientific communication and establish solid international partnerships, the Presidency of University of Alnoor held an academic meeting today, Thursday, (remotely) via video conferencing technology with Dr. Jonathan Taylor, the curator of the cuneiform collections in the cultural department at the British Museum, and one of the world’s leading Assyriology scholars.

The meeting included, on behalf of Alnoor University, the following: Dr. Ismail Abdulwahhab Ismail, Assistant President for Scientific Affairs and,Dr. Mohammed Zuhair Zaidan, Director of the Cultural Relations Department at the universityDr. nabil nooraldeen hussein Director of the Alnoor Center for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage

The meeting witnessed discussions on mechanisms for opening prospects for scientific and research cooperation, where an agreement was reached to organize a series of joint cultural and training programs between the University of Alnoor and the British Museum. These programs will be implemented in coordination and close collaboration with the relevant authorities and institutions concerned with the preservation and documentation of cultural heritage in Nineveh Governorate, contributing to supporting the historical identity of the region and developing local cadres in the fields of excavation and digital preservation of manuscripts and antiquities.

In a step that enhances the scientific standing of the university’s academic publications, Professor Jonathan Taylor has agreed to join the editorial board of the Alnoor Journal for Heritage Preservation, which constitutes a qualitative addition to the journal and strengthens its international scholarly credibility in heritage and archaeology research.

On his part, Professor Taylor expressed his great happiness with this meeting, affirming the unique historical significance of the land of Mesopotamia. He also showed serious interest and strong willingness to organize and launch specialized research and fieldwork programs at major archaeological sites in Nineveh Governorate, particularly at Khorsabad (Dur-Sharrukin), Nineveh (ancient city), and Nimrud (Kalhu), in collaboration with specialists from Alnoor University and archaeological institutions in the province.

This meeting represents a fundamental pillar within Alnoor University’s strategy of openness to international museums and research centers, and of leveraging global expertise in revitalizing and preserving the cultural heritage of the city of Mosul and its surrounding archaeological sites.
