A new scientific achievement by the students of Alnoor University: recording mutant genetic patterns for the first time worldwide

Medical Laboratory Department students achieved in College of Health and Medical Technologies, in Alnoor University A new scientific achievement was represented by the registration of 17 novel genetic variants for the first time globally in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), carried out by two research teams using modern molecular biology techniques within undergraduate research projects.

The genetic sequences were deposited in the GenBank database of NCBI after being isolated from patient samples in hospitals and laboratories in the city of Mosul. The dataset included nine genetic variants of the KRAS gene in patients with colorectal cancer, and eight genetic variants of the RAD51 gene in female patients diagnosed with endometrial cancer.

This scientific achievement by the students of Alnoor University comes within the framework of supporting academic scientific research, documenting molecular data, and making it accessible to researchers, thereby contributing to the enhancement of scientific studies and research and the development of knowledge in medical and biological fields.
