Alnoor University Strengthens Its Cultural and Academic Presence in the UK with a Visit to the British Museum
As part of the program of Alnoor University's delegation currently visiting the United Kingdom to expand international academic and cultural cooperation, the delegation accepted an invitation to visit The British Museum in London. The visit aimed to explore one of the world's most significant collections documenting the civilizations of ancient Iraq and Mesopotamia.
The delegation was received by Professor Paul Collins, Head of the Middle East Department at the British Museum and a specialist in the archaeology of Mesopotamia and the Assyrian and Babylonian collections. During the meeting, discussions focused on Iraq’s rich cultural heritage and the importance of strengthening scientific and academic cooperation in the fields of archaeology and cultural heritage.
The university delegation also conducted an extensive tour of the museum's galleries, including the Assyrian section and the Mesopotamian collections. The delegation viewed a number of the museum's most significant artifacts, sculptures, and Assyrian wall reliefs originating from historical sites in Iraq, particularly Nineveh and the Assyrian palaces, which stand as remarkable testimonies to the grandeur of the Assyrian civilization and its enduring human legacy. The museum is home to an outstanding collection of Assyrian sculptures and reliefs from Nineveh, making it one of the world's most important repositories of Assyrian heritage.
This visit comes as part of Alnoor University's strategic vision to strengthen its relationships with leading international cultural, museum, and academic institutions. It also aligns with the University's commitment to archaeological and tourism studies through its Archaeological Tourism program, while supporting scientific research and creating new opportunities for faculty members and students to engage with international institutions specializing in archaeology and cultural heritage.
The delegation emphasized that this visit represents an important step toward establishing future scientific and cultural cooperation between Alnoor University and The British Museum, particularly in areas related to the archaeology of Iraq and Mesopotamia, training, scientific research, and the exchange of expertise.
