Dean of the College of Science at Alnoor University Chairs a PhD Dissertation Defense Committee at the College of Science, University of Mosul

Prof. Dr. Ismail Ibrahim Dawood Salem, Dean of the College of Science at Alnoor University, chaired the PhD thesis defense committee on Wednesday morning, August 26, 2026, for PhD candidate Ithar Mohammed Saleh Yousif, who submitted his thesis to the Microbiology Branch of the Department of Biology, College of Science, University of Mosul, entitled “Detection and Inhibition of Sortase Enzymes in Staphylococci Isolated from Clinical Sources.” The thesis examined the potential of inhibiting the Sortase enzyme as an alternative and innovative therapeutic approach to reducing the virulence of Staphylococcus bacteria and combating both susceptible and antibiotic-resistant strains, through the use of plant extracts and purified natural compounds. The study concluded that molecular targeting of virulence factors and disruption of the SrtA gene represent a modern and promising pathway for weakening bacterial pathogens, while supporting the use of bioactive compounds as alternatives or adjuncts to antibiotics in combating persistent strains. At the end of the defense, the Dean’s Office of the College of Science presented Prof. Dr. Ismail Ibrahim Dawood with a letter of appreciation in recognition of his efforts in chairing the student’s thesis defense committee.
