About half of the world's population still lives on the equivalent of approximately two dollars a day. In many places, joining a job does not guarantee the ability to escape poverty. This slow and uneven progress therefore requires us to rethink our economic and social policies towards poverty eradication, while using new tools in this field. The continued lack of decent work opportunities, insufficient investments, and underconsumption lead to the erosion of the basic social contract on which democratic societies are based: the requirement for everyone to participate in progress.
